David H. Adamkin, MD joined the University of Louisville, Department of Pediatrics 34 years ago after completing a fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine at U of L. He has risen through the ranks to Professor of Pediatrics, Director of the Division of Neonatal Medicine, Director of the Fellowship Program and Director of Neonatal Nutrition Research. His service to his profession includes writing over 80 peer-reviewed publications, 37 book chapters and 3 books. He has given many webinars and produced videos distributed world-wide to educate health professionals on nutrition for premature infants. He served six years on the prestigious American Academy of Pediatrics Committee on the Fetus and Newborn, and was the primary author for the Guideline Screening and Management of Hypoglycemia which was published this year and is distributed worldwide as the standard of care for preventing brain injury. He is on the editorial board of journals and a manuscript reviewer for 18 journals. He has been inducted into the American Pediatric Society. At the University of Louisville, he has been director of the Neonatal Fellowship program for 22 years and trained 48 physicians. He has directed the Neonatal Division for 17 years, served 16 years on the pediatric residency Committee and 6 years on the Human Studies Committee. His service to his community and commonwealth includes founding the Kentucky Perinatal Association in 1988, serving as its first president, and remaining on the board today. Dr. Adamkin has served as chairman for the collaboration between the Commonwealth’s Maternal-Child Health Committee.
