FIRE & LIFE SAFETY EDUCATORS' CONFERENCE:
The largest fire industry, rescue, and EMS expo in the Northeast returns to Syracuse in 2020! Join NYSAFC for the 114th Annual Conference & FIRE 2020 Expo at The Oncenter from June 10-13.
Each spring, NYSAFC co-hosts this annual event with the New York State Office of Fire Prevention & Control at the New York State Academy of Fire Science. Featuring workshops, hands-on training sessions, and networking activities, for over 40 years this weekend event has brought together public educators in the emergency services field from throughout the Northeast and Canada to learn how they can enhance their programs.
COMMANDING FROM THE FRONT SEAT:
The goal of NYSAFC's free 2-day (16-hour) Commanding from the Front Seat program is to assist fire departments in meeting the best practices for the person riding in and commanding from the front right seat of any fire apparatus. These skills are outlined in the Recommended Best Practices for Fire Department Training Programs document issued by the New York State Office of Fire Prevention and Control and referenced by the New York State Department of Labor Public Employee Safety and Health Bureau.
Through lecture, discussion, class activities, and case studies, students will learn and apply the principles of fireground safety and survival through proper supervision. Objectives outlined in the program entail supervision, direction, tactical knowledge, and communications. Most fire service line of duty deaths (LODDs) are caused by the lack of these essential skills. Limit of 36 students per site. Pre-registration required.
