Overview : It is always easy to deal with your good employees. You tell them how great of a job they are doing, pat them on the back give them glowing performance evaluations, and you are on your way. Disciplining, though, is much more confrontational and is never a favorite task of any supervisor or manager. Frequently, managers engage in passive aggressive behavior in disciplining an employee just to avoid the confrontation. 

And, when the inevitable happens that you have to terminate an employee, emotions will fly all over the place. The ways you discipline an employee and terminate an employee can significantly reduce the risks you and your corporation face arising out of a termination. And, let's not forget -- the law may require you to do a number of steps in the termination process.
