About PyCon
The PyCon 2019 conference, which will take place in Cleveland, is the largest annual gathering for the community using and developing the open-source programming language. It is produced and underwritten by the , the
Because PyCon is backed by the non-profit PSF, we keep registration costs much lower than comparable technology conferences so that PyCon remains accessible to the widest group possible. The PSF also pays for the ongoing development of the software that runs PyCon and makes it available under a liberal open source license. The PSF has paid staff to manage PyCon. Two employees work on planning and two employees work on the financial aspects of PyCon.
PyCon is a dedicated to providing an enjoyable experience to everyone. .
PyCon is really five events in a row
Wednesday, May 1 & Thursday, May 2, 2019. Learn something new and relevant in intensive 3-hour sessions. The evenings are free for socializing and Open Spaces.
Friday, May 3 – Sunday, May 5, 2019.
See what's going on in the Python world, meet your fellow Pythonistas, share your knowledge and experience, make contacts, brainstorm projects, discuss prospects. The sky is the limit!
Each day begins with a plenary keynote, followed by a full 5-track schedule that fills the venue ballrooms with talks and panels on a wide variety of topics, satisfying a wide range of interests and approaches to programming.
PyCon features an unconference in parallel of the scheduled talks, with dedicated rooms that attendees can schedule for informal presentations or discussions. These rooms are open spaces that let attendees customize their experience at PyCon to match specific interests. The rooms are available for all three conference days.
At the end of each day we dedicate time to a quick series of 5-minute talks on almost any topic. The fast-paced volleys of lightning talks are fired in the main ballroom in front of a large audience, making them a very effective way to reach out to the community.
On Friday and Saturday, the vast Expo Hall will be filled with booths where you can meet companies who use Python, support Python, and who hire Pythonistas. Many non-profits and community organizations will also have booths, and want to say hello! Some sponsors will be recruiting, so come prepared with business cards and resumes if you are on the job market.
On Sunday, the Expo Hall is re-configured as our poster session space, where academics, hobbyists, and community members will answer questions and illustrate their work using large graphic posters. Presenters will describe and discuss their discoveries, creations, and projects with the PyCon attendees.
Monday, May 6 – Thursday, May 9, 2019.
In addition, there are two summits scheduled during the tutorials which will bring developers of the various implementations together to discuss technology and strategies: the Python Language Summit and the Python in Education Summit.
Exhibit Hall:
The Exhibit Hall will be located in Exhibit Hall B & C in the Huntington Convention Center.
The opening reception is in the expo hall, in addition to breakfasts, all breaks, and lunches.
Diversity Statement
Our goal is to create an inclusive, respectful conference environment that invites participation from people of all races, ethnicities, genders, ages, abilities, religions, and sexual orientations. PyCon and its staff fully support and endorse the Python Software Foundation's diversity statement:
"The Python Software Foundation and the global Python community welcome and encourage participation by everyone. Our community is based on mutual respect, tolerance, and encouragement, and we are working to help each other live up to these principles. We want our community to be more diverse: whoever you are, and whatever your background, we welcome you."
We're actively seeking to increase the diversity of our attendees, speakers, and sponsors through our calls for proposals, other open submission processes, and through dialogue with the larger communities we serve.
This is an ongoing process. We are talking to our program chairs, program committees, and various innovators, experts, and organizations about this goal and about ways they can help us achieve it.
